A year typically refers to a calendar year, the time between two dates of the same name. However, years can be of different lengths due to the presence or absence of a leap day within the year, or to the conversion of dates from one calendar to another.
The oldest person ever whose age has been verified is the contested case of Jeanne Calment (1875–1997) of France, who died at the purported age of 122 years, 164 days. The oldest man ever whose age has been verified is Jiroemon Kimura (1897–2013) of Japan, who died at the age of 116 years, 54 days.
As of 23 January 2019, the oldest known living person is Kane Tanaka of Japan, aged 116 years, 21 days. The oldest known living man is Gustav Gerneth of Germany, aged 113 years, 100 days. Due to differences in life expectancy, the 100 oldest women have lived significantly longer than the 100 oldest men.
All the people on this list are supercentenarians, having reached an age of at least 110.
